Things that happen around Kuwait.

A Movember to Remember

Some might know what Movember means and what it stands for, here in Kuwait not all of us knew about. I myself didn’t know what it meant and what it really stands for. However, I went on the internet and goggled it. I found out what it was about and what was the TRUE cause behind it. YES I was truly amazed!

The information that I am about to share with you has been copied of Wikipedia:

“Movember (a portmanteau word from moustache and “November“) is an annual, month-long event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of prostate cancer and other male cancer and associated charities. The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at Movember.com.[1] The goal of Movember is to “change the face of men’s health.

Origins

Seven Nightly News aired a story in 1999 featuring a group of young men in Adelaide, South Australia who originated the name “Movember” and the idea of growing moustaches for charity during the month of November.[12] In the news report, members of the Adelaide-based “Movember Committee” explained how they came up with the idea for Movember one night in the pub. The group started with 80 men from Adelaide and interstate, and aimed to raise money for the RSPCA through selling T-shirts in what they termed “Growing whiskers for whiskers”.[12] The committee remains uninvolved with the wider Movember movement and claims to have coined the term “Movember” in 1999

In 2004, an unrelated group in Melbourne, Victoria organised an event where 30 men would grow a moustache for 30 days in order to raise awareness for prostate cancer and depression in men. This group would later become the Movember Foundation charity.

The Movember Foundation has since raised $174-million worldwide after spreading to South Africa and Europe, reaching North America in 2006.[6][7] In 2010, participants in the United States alone raised over $7.5 million.

Controversies

In November 2007 at Scots College in Wellington, New Zealand, several graduating students were banned from end-of-year prizes for growing moustaches and the college threatened to ban a senior student from their NCEA examinations (official secondary school qualification) for growing a moustache during November.

In 2007, the Movember Foundation events were featured on Australian tabloid current affairs program Today Tonight, which accused the foundation of spending a disproportionate amount on running costs and high salaries for its directors. The financial summary of the Australian 2008 Movember campaign listed campaign costs (administration and fundraising) as being 8% of the total amount raised. In 2007, campaign costs were listed as 9% of total amount raised.”

Will I did my own contribution for this month Movember, a way to show my support. The main idea of this month is to grow a moustache (will men should at least). Okay I MIGHT have some peach fuzz on my upper lip, but that is NOT ENOUGH to show my support for the cause :p. So I went on and created my own looks of moustaches. Hope you like them as much as I enjoyed creating them :D.

My four moustache looks for Movember!

These moustache looks that I have created are inspired by some pictures that I have seen over the internet. I know they are funny and are over exaggerated, but hey lets create something fun for all of us to enjoy :D. The concept behind these styles comes from men that have different hair colour and fashion styles towards moustaches. I hope you enjoy these looks and please COMMENT which is your favorite LOOK! 😀

The other reason why I created these styles was for a contest here in Kuwait. The contest is sponsored by a Kuwaiti magazine called “City Pages”. To check out their magazine go to the their website CityPages !

Salon: Jaz & Joy

In my post “Out with MAMA of to France”, I mentioned that she and I went to a salon called Jaz & Joy to get ourselves pampered before she leaves for her trip. This is the salon that my mum usually goes to, to me it was my second time. The first time I went Jaz & Joy, I got my hair styled for a wedding, manicure-pedicure and my eyebrows reshaped. I really enjoyed the services that they provided and the STAFF WAS REALLY FRIENDLY! This is time I went and got a hair-treatment that was fruit based, change of nail polish and henna design on my hands.

This is the hairstyle was done by Jaz & Joy to a wedding I attended mid of summer2012.

The makeup was done by me. This was the first time that I styled my hair in a “modern” fashion for a wedding. I was very self-conscious of my hair because of that reason. However, by the end of the night I really did love my hair and the compliments that I received!

Henna tattoos on fingers, and my name “Noufa” on the inside of my rest.

I really like how the henna came out! I forgot what the name of the nail-polish colour that I applied, I know it’s a green essie colour. The hair-treatment that I got smells REALLY GOOD! My hair feels soft after it and looks a lot healthier.

The location of Jaz & Joy:

  • Area: Al-Shaab Al-Bahri-Kuwait
  • Block: 8
  • Street: Al-Kandy
  • Building: Mohammad Nasser Al-Arbash
  • Floor: 1  (Next to Flex Fitness)

Chocolate and Macaroon in Kuwait

As I mentioned in my earlier post “Going out with Friends” (check it out!) that my friends and I went to Chocolate and Macaroon for snacks. We ordered food and we shared them. It was the third time that I have tried their food. The first two times I went was for dinner and I never tried the desserts. Yesterday when I was there, IT WASTHE FIRST TIME I TRIED THEIR DESSERTS!

This what we ordered yesterday

As you can see in the picture above on the right top to bottom we ordered; Saronah which is a brownie topped with strawberry cheesecake and Volcano which is a chocolate cake filled with hot chocolate sauce.

On the left of the picture from top to bottom we ordered; Chicken Creaser Salad, Big Story Fries which is French fries with grilled beef hotdog slices with their homemade special cream cheese-mayo-ketchup and their Mr. Mini Cheese Burger.

From the desserts, I personally preferred the Saronah over the Volcano. I liked the sweet and sourness of the cheesecake, I didn’t really taste the chocolate in the Volcano it tasted very mild chocolate. Although it was milk-chocolate, to me it tasted more like white chocolate. On the other hand, compared to other chocolate cakes that are filled with chocolate sauce it was very light. I might be a bit biased, because I like cheesecake more than I do chocolate cake.

The food tasted really good, it was well presented. I liked the chicken in the Chicken Creaser Salad it was very tender, and I liked the fact that it was lightly spiced with salt and paper for the salad. The Big Story Fries was something new to me, when we first ordered it, I didn’t know it contained hotdogs (which it wasn’t a problem). I liked the cheese that was on top of it and that fact that it pink made it look interesting. The Mr. Mini Cheese Burger was THE BEST BURGER; I was shocked that such a small burger can be so juicy and yummy. It was my favourite! 😀

The Morning-Salon Look

This morning, my aunt picked me up to go to the salon. She took me to the salon that she usually goes to, and it’s been years she’s beengoing to it. The salon is called “Al-Jabriya Beauty Salon”; from its name you can see that the salon is located in Jabriya-Kuwait. While I was there I got a manicure, pedicure and got a hair blow-dry. My aunt got the same services I did. The service coast was like any salon I have been to, the only difference the salon did not look very modern. What I mean is that the salon does not look like the “new-fashion” salons that are around, yet they were clean. However, they did use the latest and “in-fashion” fashion products. On the other hand I was very impressed by their service!

In this picture I am wearing:

  • Sunglass: Chanel
  • Top: H&M
  • Leggings: H&M
  • Bag: LV
  • Earrings: Dior
  • Sandals: One the left the pedicure salon slippers on the right H&M

The colours are from Essie nail polish. My colour is the blue colour and it’s called “Bikini so Teeny”, and the orange colour is my aunt’s and it’s called “Cute as a Button”.

To contact Al-Jabriya Beauty Salon:

  • Telephone: 25330280 or 25325809
  • Address: Jabriya, Block 12, Street 7, Building 90, First Flour

Godive MY JEWEL CHOCLATES!

Do I love chocolate? Well yah I kind of do, but I am not a big chocoholic, I enjoy the occasion chocolate bar or chocolate cake. However, when it comes to ice-cream I would prefer vanilla because it has a mild flavour and it’s not too heavy. When it comes to cakes or cupcakes I love it more when it’s a moist vanilla cake then chocolate. What’s wired is that I like red-velvet cake more than chocolate cake, when red-velvet is just chocolate cake WITH RED DIY! Talk about sociology?!

On the other hand, when it comes to rich-EXPENSIVE chocolate I say look no further because Godiva is here. Oh I remember that day when I tried my first Godiva chocolate, it was when they opened their second store in Kuwait at 360 Mall and my mum got me a dark chocolate bar (dark chocolate is my favourite) that had raspberry filling. The first bite was haven throughout and around me! I could say that within that moment the world problems have been solved in my mind! As they say the rest became history. Today when I went out for breakfast with my Aunt she got me some Godiva chocolate because she knows my dyeing love FOR IT!

Godiva Choclate ❤

In Kuwait Godiva can be found at two either malls; 360 Mall and Al Fanar Mall.

Eye Lushes

As I mentioned in an earlier article “Henna Time!” I applied false eyelashes; it was one of the things I got pampered too. This is the second time that applied them, but last time they didn’t last long because I didn’t take care of them. For both of the times I got the service the eyelashes done at Beauty Image salon (the salon is not paying for these articles, I just like going there). It only took about 20 minutes to apply them and they last for 2 weeks if maintained properly. I like them they look very natural but still make a GREAT statement.

It’s like having mascra for 24/7 and you don’t get to feel them at all!

So what do you think about the eyelashes, did you ever get false eyelashes? For how long did they last?

Henna Time!

So today I went back to Beauty Image salon to get my last minute pampering for Eid. While I was there I got my hair blow-dried and added false eyelashes (will be mention on a later blog). What amazed me while I was there was the amount of girls coming in to get Henna on their hands for Eid. I liked that still there are people that still keep this tradition and take it seriously, but what amazed me more was the amount of women who came in to get Henna hand tattoos and brought their daughters with them. It makes me happy to see that this tradition is a life and well, but now it has a modern twist! 😀

Here are some pictures of Henna hand tattoos:

Just to make things clear, these Henna tatoo desgines where not taken in the salon.
