Veranda Luxury Resturant by Harvey Nichols

When it comes to food, the fresher the better. I am right? True cuisines can be rare in our fast growing world where everything is mass produced. Fruits and vegetables come in seasons, but now it become easy to produce that all year round. This doesn’t mean it’s always fresh and organic. On the other hand, this mass production has decreased the world from hunger. That is why now leave in an age where FINE foods come in HIGH prices and can only be found in the most EXTRAORDINARY places. One of those places is Veranda.

Veranda is a new luxury dining restaurant that is established by M.H. Alshaya Company for Harvey Nichols Kuwait. Veranda is the new HAUTE restaurant; GLAMROUS fashion with indulgence food under one roof is every fashion and food lover’s DREAM! The concept of the food is based around Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine and the rich teats of Asia. Now this is what I call HAVEN on earth.

On the 10th of March (Yesterday) Veranda invited bloggers to taste the food and experiences the atmosphere of the dining area. Below you will find pictures that will indulge you.

My brothet and I

My brothet and I

The dress code was Smart Casual, seeing a picture of the restaurant I wanted to keep it elegant as well. You can see in the middle picture you can see my brother and I. I took my brother with me because him and I have different taste in food. So I thought it would be nice to share a meal with someone that different opinion in what foods they like and dislike.I will be sharing both fashion looks.

In this picture I am wearing:

  • Black puffy skirt: H&M
  • Black sleeved top with bronze cuffs: Dorothy Perkins from the KKollection
  • Black heels with gold details: New Look
  • Brown and beige clutch: Prada

What my brother is wearing:

  • Turquoise pullover: Zara
  • White polo shirt: Ralph Lauran
  • Jeans: Diesel
  • Black with red details: Converse

It was a Bloggers Evening, they had a whole menu set for us. After the cocktails were handed to us they offered us fresh basket bread with organic butter. Then they set us of with “First Bites” (that was for sharing with the people your with) there were five different dishes. Then we had our “Starts” and each of us had two starts. We were then presented with two SPECTACULAR “Main-Courses”. Finally Veranda pleased our sweet tooth’s with two different “Desserts”.

Welcoming Drinks

Welcoming Drinks

As we walked in the restaurant they had welcoming drinks for us. They offered to kinds of cocktails; one was a pomegranate cocktail with lots of ice. The second one (the one top) was a mixture of really fresh mangos, strawberries and YUMMY passion fruit. I had both drink and they were EXTREMLY good. ❤

FIRST BITES

Crostini

Crostini

The bread that came with this dish was made in house. The whole dish was fresh! The crostini came with mozzarella that was lightly melted on it with grilled to perfection cherry tomatoes and dazzled with balsamic. This yummy dish contained some of my favourite ingredients put together. I always loved Crostini’s, but this one you could taste the freshness. You bite into the Crostini you can’t tell that the bread left was baked that morning and kept warm for until preparing the dish for customers. This is a dish you must try.

King Prawn Tempura

King Prawn Tempura

I rarely have gone into a restaurant that offers fried shrimps (prawns) that I didn’t like. Though there are restaurants that offer fried prawns that are better than other dining places. So here we are at one of those restaurants Veranda that offer one of the most delicious fried prawns my taste buds have even meet. What made this dish very adequate was the dip it came with, mayonnaise with saffron, lime and chives. To make matters even better the mayonnaise is organic and made at the restaurant. This was a dream set in on my taste buds.

Homemade Hummus

Homemade Hummus

To me hummus is one of those dishes that you can have at any time of the day without feeling guilty. I am a huge hummus fan, it’s one of those types of dishes that aren’t very hard to make. What makes hummus different from one place to another is its presentation and what’s offered with it. Here the hummus has been laid on top some yellow vibrant roasted baby bell peppers. I really don’t like roasted bell peppers. I usually eat them only when they are raw in a sandwich or in a salad. I like how the setting of the hummus wasn’t boring and very pleasing to the eyes with the colours. When I took the bite of the hummus with the roasted bell pepper it a match made in heaven.

Aubergine Moutabal

Aubergine Moutabal

Now moutabal is harder to prepare the hummus. If made right it would be marvels experience to enjoy, if not made right it can be quite bitter and not very pleasing. I am one that doesn’t like eggplants no matter what. They never applied to me and I never found them to taste good. The only time I would ever eat an eggplant is when it’s in moutabal form with other ingredients it gives the eggplant a taste that I find satisfying. Here I didn’t really like the moutabla. Out of five starts I personally would give it two. However my brother enjoyed the bitterness and said it was the best moutabla he has had!

Duck Spring Rolls

Duck Spring Rolls

I am going to say it right up front, this was an EXPLOSION in my mouth. When you go there YOU HAVE to order this. It’s the most spectacular dish I have tried. Now this is what we can all came come together and agree that this is the piece of diamond that our appetite deserve. If you love yourself then you should go after this crispy duck, which you can dip into a sauce that is made from pomegranate and spicy tomato chutney. Need I say more?

STARTERS

Salmon

Salmon

With all the benefits that a Salmon has and with so many people loving the fish, sadly I am not the kind of person that would ever order Salmon. I’ve tried cooked and prepared in so many different ways and I never really liked it. So it wasn’t that this dish wasn’t nice, when it comes to salmon I am biased and I know I wouldn’t like it. Nonetheless, my brother loved this dish and said it was his favourite! The Scottish salmon has been aniseed cured (it was cold cooked), with cherry-oak smoked that you can taste in the salmon and gave it its twist and apple fennel salad. For one thing I did enjoy the salad.

Canadian Lobster Ravioli

Canadian Lobster Ravioli

Yet again when it comes to pasta I am lover, and when it comes to lobster I am a grabber. The way this dish was prepared is that the sauce light bisque was made with the water in which the lobster was boiled in. What I loved about this dish is that there weren’t many ingredients that overwhelmed the taste of the lobster. The thickness of the sauce was just right, it wasn’t too heavy nor was it to light. If you’re a lobster then this dish is definitely for you!

MAIN-COURSES

Hammour Medallions and Salsa

Hammour Medallions and Salsa

Another fish dish and yes I am a sea food lover (just no salmon). This fish came with crusted nuts, fennel and apricot salsa and jallab sauce. Now tell me doesn’t sound yummy and applying? If not you have to go and check it out yourself and be the judge. The nuts in this dish gave it the right structure and feeling. How crunchy the nuts where came right with the soft delicate fish.

Josper Baked Lamb Moussaka

Josper Baked Lamb Moussaka

The way this lamb has been cooked is truly unique. To actually make this lamb it takes 5 hours to prepare and have it ready. Even though this lamb took 5 hours to be ready when it arrived at our table it was fresh as ever. You would have thought that it was cooked right at the spot. The lamb has been baked in a Jasper oven, an oven that requires only the experience chefs to know how to use it. Inside the lamb you’d find melted goat chess that makes the taste buds go wild. I just love the how the sourness of chess mixes with the sweetness of the tomato sauce. If you want something new go for this delightful lamb.

DESERTS

Pineapple & Raspberry Mille-Feuille

Pineapple & Raspberry Mille-Feuille

After tarts my second favourite dessert is mille-feuille. When the ingredients are super fresh and crispy you know you are in for an amazing treat. That’s what happened I was at love form first bite and yes love was in the room when this little dessert came in and right into our table. The other best part about this dessert is that it came with raspberries, now I haven’t met anyone that didn’t like them. They were super soft and juicy just right with the creamy free vanilla cream and the crunchiness of the biscuits. YES they used a special kind of biscuit on the mille-feuille then the traditional puff-pastry. GO TRY IT!

Mini Chocolate Mousse

The chocolate mousse came with black cherry coulis that was really sweet and took over my sweet tooth. The side to this mousse is that with the ingredients there is a hint of ginger to give the ultimate experience and help blend in all the flavours. If you’re not a ginger fan don’t worry. The taste of the ginger is very mild and just a hint. When you have dessert you will know why I will keep telling you it’s the best chocolate mousse.

I’ve been saying this from some time now, and bet some of you out there have been saying it too…Kuwait is becoming another destination for the fashion world. Now Kuwait is going to be another fashion centre. I hope that sooner or later we get to have “Kuwait Fashion Week”, oh that would be SUPER AWESOME. Anyway last week I got an invitation for a small boutique that’s called “Style Boutique”, they already have two other locations in Kuwait this was going to be third.

Style Boutique is a store that brings clothes from China, Turkey and the UK, and all the clothes that they bring is SUPER FABOLOUS! When I received my invitation a week ago and I was SO ECXITED! I couldn’t wait to see what they will bring. I have been to the other two stores so I know this would not go under anything than MARVELOUS. ❤

The trouble of being a student, blogger, makeup guru and a fashion lover can never have an end. I just came back from university and went home to get a quick shower. After that I had to apply my makeup and figure out what to wear. Sadly I didn’t have time to do anything with my hair so I left it ALL NATURA. 😀 If you want me to post how to get this makeup look let me know in the comments or email me. I was SUPER excited and couldn’t wait to get there an meet the FABOLOUS owners and see the NEW STYLISH store.

When I got there they had their famous PINK CARPET laid out for their guests. Now that is one of the MOST CUTEST things I have ever seen. So girly, so cute and so beyond GLAMOUR!

The Pink Carpet <3

All around the entrance they had BEAUTIFUL flowers and candles that went perfectly with the spring breeze. The adorable thing they did was give out tea and coffee in old Kuwaiti style. Sorry I didn’t take any pictures of that. I loved the simplicity yet elegance of the decor for the event, it was perfect for the store and blended in very well. The event planner was “3 Pieces of Mind”. Below the picture you will find there contact information. It is worth it to CHECK them out!

Cartier Event, Bridal Exhibition Kuwait (Part 2)

Cartier is at fault of many love stories that have happened in the past decade. It will still go to inspire many to fall in love, not only with the diamonds but with the person that gives it to them. When reading the stories of the beauty icons that wore Cartier, it seem’s like your reading a fairytale. This might sound cliché, that’show we tend to feel when we listen to marvouls love stories that make the heart beat slow for it cannot belife that life can peresent it.

28703

When that special someone has that special jewel for your beautiful skin.

Some of the famous women that wore Cartier for historic events are:

  • Queen Elizabeth II
  • Princess Grace Kelly
  • Elizabeth Taylor
  • Kate Middleton (Duchess of Cambridge)

Most of these women are known for their styles and beauty. They haven’t only affected us fashion wise but made us girls dream of being princess and more empowered. We have come to respect these women and admire them. I for one am a HUGE fan of Elizabeth Taylor and think that she is the beautiful woman.

Queen Elizabeth wearing Williamson Diamond brooch

The Williamson Diamond is known to be the BEST pink diamond ever discovered. It was found by the Canadian geologist and royalist Dr. John Thorborn Williams who is the diamond is named after. It was found at Mwadui mine in Tanganyika that was owned by Dr. John. He presented the uncut stone weighing at 54.5 CARATS to then Princess Elizabeth as a wedding gift.

After that the diamond was cut by Briefel and Lemer of Clerkenwell into a 23.6 CARATS in a brilliant round shape. At first the diamond was considered to be used at the coronation. Instead the dazzling round shaped diamond was placed as the centre of a brooch of a jonquil flower designed by Frederick Mew Cartier in 1953. The brooch contains 170 small brilliant-cut diamonds, 12 baguette-cut diamonds and 21 marquise diamonds, which were used to form the petals, stalk and the leaves of this brooch. Now that’s a BROOH worth having!

Grace Kelly wearing her engagement ring of the film set High Society

Princess Grace Kelly’s engagement was itself as one of the GLAMOURISE events in modern day history. Not only because a stylish Hollywood actress was getting married to a prince, not just a prince but the prince of Monaco. What really made the headlines then was the ring that Grace Kelly was given. The ring was a FABOULSE 10.47 CARTS the first BIG ring to be given out by a European Monarchy. The reason why Prince Rainier III gave that big ring to Grace Kelly was so he could fit in of the glamour of Hollywood and there well known engagement rings.

On January 1956 the prince gave and announced his engagement to Grace Kelly. The ring that he presented here was platinum from Cartier, where it had an emerald-cut diamond 10.47 CARATS with two baguette-cut diamonds on each side. This ring was perfect showing the delicacy of the actress and that it showed the belief that Grace had that LESS IS MORE when it comes to style. THAT IS AN ENGAGMENT RING WE ALL GIRLS DREAM OF!

Elizabeth Taylor at Podium to Present Academy Award

Elizabeth Taylor wearing the “Burton Diamond” at Princess Grace Kelly’s 40th birthday party at Monaco

History has shown us so many great love stories, sadly most are fiction. However there is love story that is true and has inspired other lovers, the love that we between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. The love they had lasted for decades even though they have been divorced twice. When asked they use to refer to each other as their greats love even though both have remarried.

Richard Burton bought a ring from Cartier that then it cost him 1.1 million dollars, all just he insulted Elizabeth’s hands. Then after she saw that the diamond 69.42 CARATS was too BIG for a ring so she had made into a necklace.

The stone was found in Premier Mine in South Africa in 1966 which weighed 241 CARTS! It was then cut by Harry Winston to 69.42 CARTS into a pear shape. Burton bought the diamond from Cartier to present it to Taylor. I personally wouldn’t say no to that necklace, would you?

Kate Middleton waring the Cartier Halo Tiara on her wedding to Prince William

The Halo Tiara was made in 1936 by Cartier and was purchased by the Duke of York, who later became King George VI before 3 week becoming king (Elizabeth’s Father) for his Duchess wife Queen Elizabeth’s mother (known later as Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother). Queen Elizabeth lent Kate Middleton the Halo Tiara which was given to her on her 18th birthday by her mother.

The tiara was borrowed then by The Queen Mother’s daughter Princess Margaret to wear the Halo Scroll Tiara to the 1953 coronation. This is when then the Queen Elizabeth was crowned. Later in 1973 it was lent to Queen Elizabeth’s daughter Princess Anne before she received her own tiara.

Many years later the Halo Tiara was lent to Kate Middleton to wear on her wedding day, the she married Prince William. So you see this tiara has a long history and we very will kept in the family. The question is will I or you be next to borrow it? :p (fingers crossed :p )

Here are just some of the amazing-historic jewellery that Cartier has made and sold. We alone that there still more to come and we cannot wait to see what other remarkable diamonds we will be able to see. However, the real question, who’s next to be wearing a LEGENDAY piece from Cartier.

Stay Lovely,

N

P.S. sorry for posting this to late 😀

Cartier Event, Bridal Exhibition Kuwait (Part 1)

When speaking of luxury the first thing that comes to mind is diamonds. They are a rare beauty that can be shinned on a women’s neck. The rare beauty that enlightens the love between two that want to spend years forever together. Cartier has always been my top luxury brand of diamonds. When entering any store you feel like an important person and all the fabulous jewels lay for your eyes.

Carla Abboud the Director of Public Relations & Events, Cartier Middel East and I

The Cartier Bridal Exhibition was at 360 Mall. The event is called “Cartier Legendary Diamond and Bridal Exhibition” it started on the 17th of January until the 30th of January. The exhibition present’s two different mini-museums; one is an exceptional Bridal show by Cartier, and the second is a photographic museum of Cartier Legendary Diamonds.

My advice DO NOT miss this outstanding opportunity of seeing the greatest master pieces that Cartier has created the icons of our modern and ancient history. The next blog post will showcase the beautiful pieces that are shown at the museum.

Stay lovely,

Salon: Jaz & Joy

In my post “Out with MAMA of to France”, I mentioned that she and I went to a salon called Jaz & Joy to get ourselves pampered before she leaves for her trip. This is the salon that my mum usually goes to, to me it was my second time. The first time I went Jaz & Joy, I got my hair styled for a wedding, manicure-pedicure and my eyebrows reshaped. I really enjoyed the services that they provided and the STAFF WAS REALLY FRIENDLY! This is time I went and got a hair-treatment that was fruit based, change of nail polish and henna design on my hands.

This is the hairstyle was done by Jaz & Joy to a wedding I attended mid of summer2012.

The makeup was done by me. This was the first time that I styled my hair in a “modern” fashion for a wedding. I was very self-conscious of my hair because of that reason. However, by the end of the night I really did love my hair and the compliments that I received!

Henna tattoos on fingers, and my name “Noufa” on the inside of my rest.

I really like how the henna came out! I forgot what the name of the nail-polish colour that I applied, I know it’s a green essie colour. The hair-treatment that I got smells REALLY GOOD! My hair feels soft after it and looks a lot healthier.

The location of Jaz & Joy:

  • Area: Al-Shaab Al-Bahri-Kuwait
  • Block: 8
  • Street: Al-Kandy
  • Building: Mohammad Nasser Al-Arbash
  • Floor: 1  (Next to Flex Fitness)

The Morning-Salon Look

This morning, my aunt picked me up to go to the salon. She took me to the salon that she usually goes to, and it’s been years she’s beengoing to it. The salon is called “Al-Jabriya Beauty Salon”; from its name you can see that the salon is located in Jabriya-Kuwait. While I was there I got a manicure, pedicure and got a hair blow-dry. My aunt got the same services I did. The service coast was like any salon I have been to, the only difference the salon did not look very modern. What I mean is that the salon does not look like the “new-fashion” salons that are around, yet they were clean. However, they did use the latest and “in-fashion” fashion products. On the other hand I was very impressed by their service!

In this picture I am wearing:

  • Sunglass: Chanel
  • Top: H&M
  • Leggings: H&M
  • Bag: LV
  • Earrings: Dior
  • Sandals: One the left the pedicure salon slippers on the right H&M

The colours are from Essie nail polish. My colour is the blue colour and it’s called “Bikini so Teeny”, and the orange colour is my aunt’s and it’s called “Cute as a Button”.

To contact Al-Jabriya Beauty Salon:
